GaiDen, JK Savage, Jim Kelly…

Our summer schedule is finally starting to pan out. First up is the promo album “JK Savage” by GaiDen Gadema. This is a collection of songs written before after and during the process of Jim Kelly that just didn’t fit into the mix of the album. This will be available the first week of June at shows and local Des Moines stores.

GaiDen’s official Central Standard debut “The Jim Kelly Acquisition” is mastered, and the artwork is in it’s finishing stages. We are hoping to have this all ready to go and out by the end of July, so be on the look out.

BumRap: Underpass Logic Editor’s Pick at CDBaby.com

BumRap: Underpass Logic has been chosen as one of the Editors Picks on CDBaby.com. It will be featured on the sites main page on January 31st with the following review.

Beneath the thump of the slightly affected kick drums, the click and slap of the percussion, and the bass lines that are tucked around the edges but still manage to knock out a fully-formed groove, you’ll find the icing on the cake: some great lyricists. This is a thick hip hop record, one that doesn’t subscribe to a discernible formula, but that also makes perfect sense when you hear it. The raps are quick and spot-on, rattling through thoughts so rapidly that the double-tracked back-ups are almost providing color commentary. The beats are on point as well, not afraid to take some chances and never riding the same feel for too long. “Quiet Hour” is a hard-hitter with dark orchestral hits forming its backbone; “Iron Landscapes” flips it, working in some lighter R&B. They both succeed, and together they pack a wallop of a 1-2 punch. If you like the more abstract side of hip hop (El-P, etc.), you’ll be wantin’ to try this on for size.

2008 to 2009…

2008… a short list of things that happened.

Maxilla Blue… We finally finished this project, after 2 years of work it all seemed to realy just fall into place in a matter of a month. Release, shows, fun, tired, moving, growing, drummer, studio, and moving forward. It worked out a little better than we thought it would, who knows what comes next.

Brick and Mortar… We found our way outside of my apartment for the first time this year setting up in a small dungeon of a space. It was new to not have certain capabilities available all the time, but it has opened some new doors for us. A lot of work went into this space, doors, acoustic treatment, insulation, carpet, paint, removing iron pipes, cover phone lines, breaking door knobs, and dealing with really loud bands. I think we are ready though, and 2009 should be great down in this space.

Roster Add On’s… New friends and old friends joined the roster, created some great music, and are helping to propel us to what should be a huge 2009. Cleo’s Apartment and GaiDen Gadema will both have something coming this year. A few more sprockets and cogs.

What is next? A full years worth of releases are lining up, more travelling is starting to become possible, and we might actually be learning something. Hopefully at the end of the month there will be some big announcements and sure thing release dates ready to go. Spring brings change.

Hoodies For Humanity Success

Thanks to everyone who came out Friday. The show Friday was a huge success, we collected so much for the Iowa Homeless Youth. Our studio is currently filled with items for donation, so many, we are having trouble figuring out how to get them to the Shelter.

Working on getting the new cd’s, tapes, and shirts in stores the week after the holidays. You should be able to pick them up by the new year. Until then, we are on break.
